Darkstar Transport
'Driving Out In The Dark Under The Stars'
1974 - 198
7

Darkstar Transport was an Anchorage, Alaska based off-highway [aka 'bush'] freight & oversized heavy equipment hauling delivery organization operating twenty four [24] hours a day 365 days a year between Anchorage, Fairbanks, and portions of the Yukon Territory of Canada including the capital of Whitehorse between 1974 and 1987.

Darkstar Transport equipment included 23 vehicles ranging from a Nissan Patrol all terrain 4 wheel drive messenger-payroll-parcel delivery vehicle

to the three 18 and 20 wheeler multi-axle diesel truck rigs for over the highway, off highway, and ice road use all year long under all conditions.

All Darkstar fleet vehicles ran throughout the year on a 24 hour a day basis 365 days a year delivering critically needed freight, equipment, hazardous materials, explosives, heavy equipment, medical supplies, repair parts, and supplies to remote areas, worksites, government installations, mining operations, oil field operations, remote rural villages, and many other off highway remote site 'Bush' locations.

During winter snow-ice operations each Darkstar Transport vehicle was outfitted-equipped with steel studded snow tires on every wheel rim and sets of chains including all of the 20 wheeler 'big rigs' along with one Single Side Band Communications Radio's set to the Alaskan-Canadian truckers channel with two long range multi-directional antennas.

Additionally with no commerical radio broadcast stations available,
each Darkstar Transport vehicle was equipped with its own cassette player for the individual Darkstar drivers personal choices in music, old radio mystery or comedy shows, educational learning tapes, and other subjects.

Every Darkstar driver was personally vetted by Darkstar Management,
signed a one year [12 month] employment contract stipulating 24/7 and 365 days a year availablity, no alcohol or drugs could be consumed at any time by the Darkstar driver during that year whether on or off duty, alcohol breathalizer tests could be conducted to them at any time.

A positive test or any sign of alcohol, drugs, or having a vehicle accident resulted in immeadiate termination of the drivers employment.

During the inital screening process, to be hired as a Darkstar Transport Driver each potential trainee could not have had even a single ticket or an accident on their driving records dating back to their inital drivers license or drivers learners permit ever issued.

Every Darkstar Transport Driver was fully vetted through an initial Federal Bureau of Investigations [FBI] background check, a State of Arizona State Troopers background check, were each specially and highly individually trained, then tested as solo drivers encountering a wide variation of circumstances unique to Alaska and Yukon Territory condtions-encounters-emergency situations-driver & road safety-mechanical problems-raodside emergency proceedures-glacier steam and river fording resolutions.

After over millions of miles of on and off highway including glacier river-stream fording and ice road travel not a single 1974 -1987 Darkstar Transport Driver ever had an accident, got a ticket including a parking ticket, or damaged or lost a single piece of freight or a single piece of equipment they carried and delivered.
